Celebrating 100 Years of Methodist Men's Ministry, 1908-2008

The heritage of United Methodist Men (UMM) is a most glorious one. The roots of Methodist Men are buried deep down in the heart of Methodism and find their source in the life and work of the founder of Methodism, John Wesley. In 1908, the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church formally recognized the Methodist Brotherhood, an action which marked the official beginning of men's ministry in the denomination. United Methodist Men are a creative supportive fellowship of men who seek to know Jesus Christ, to grow spiritually and to seek daily His will. Our primary purpose is to declare the centrality of Christ in the lives of men and in all their relationships.

The United Methodist Men at First United Methodist Church of Greensboro meet on the third Thursday of each month (September - May) at 8:00am in the Family Life Center. Additional meeting times are possible. We enjoy a tasty breakfast by chef Marv and helper Neil, followed by a presentation by someone in the community who has a "story" to tell. We are always looking for suggestions for speakers. We also have a presentation by one of our members sharing his life story and how he got to Greensboro First United Methodist Church.

The Greensboro First UMM helps our local church in a variety of ways. The men provide one of the Wednesday night dinners to help one of many ministries which FUMC supports. In addition the UMM are the official sponsor of Boy Scout Troop #316. We also support many of the local charities such as the Circle of Love, First Call Pregnancy Center, Habitat for Humanity and others as needs arise.

Annually, UMM from throughout the North Georgia Conference gather at Rock Eagle for a weekend of fellowship and retreat.

We welcome all men in our community to come and join us for fellowship and service in God's kingdom in the Lake Oconee area.
